University of Arkansas Banner

The µ-ATOMS team advocates the EFRC program commitment to promote inclusive and equitable research (PIER) among supported investigators and institutions. The µ-ATOMS team, formed around a common scientific interest, has a diverse group of researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and staff. Our team consists of members from nine universities and two national laboratories.

µ-ATOMS is proactively expanding its diversity by attracting students and post-doctoral research scientists with gender, race, and ethnic balance from Latino, Black, Caucasian, Asian, and Middle Eastern. We will offer research opportunities for individuals historically excluded from disciplines based on their background (demographic, socio-economic status, ability, etc.)

PIER committee

Our overall strategic plan will be guided by a PIER committee comprised of eight members. The committee is chaired by Dragica Vasileska of Arizona State University.

Committee members include: Ezra Bussman (Sandia National Laboratories), Yuping Zeng (University of Delaware), Emma McIntosh (University of Arkansas), Mansour Mortazavi (University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), Paul McIntyre (Stanford University/SLAC) Fisher Yu (University of Arkansas) and Gregory Salamo (University of Arkansas).

Achievement of our metrics will look like:

-leveraging DEI resources of µ-ATOMS partner institutions and DOE diversity
programs and opportunities (i.e., DOE “Early Career Network Diversity lunch” at the EFRC PI Meeting

-targeted invitation of center seminar speakers, clear information dissemination (marketing DEI efforts)

-leveraging center visibility to influence partner institutions, e.g., in new faculty hiring

-identifying opportunities to send EFRC members to scientific workshops designated for underrepresented groups, to recruit and connect (i.e., DOD HBCU/MI program meeting)
